Police have sought assistance from the public in identifying a suspect in the case of attempted rape of a student at Jahangirnagar University.

A photograph of a man seen in CCTV footage related to the incident has been released and people have been requested to provide any information about him.

The request was made in an emergency public awareness message sent by the police headquarters today, Saturday.

According to the police statement, efforts are being made to identify the person seen in the CCTV footage in the case of attempted rape of a student on the campus. Anyone with information regarding his identity, whereabouts or any related details is requested to contact police via WhatsApp on 01320-089305.

The statement from the police headquarters further said that the identity of the informers will be kept completely confidential. A reward has also been announced for reliable information.

Last Tuesday night around 11:00 pm, the student was walking on a road inside the university campus when the accused allegedly followed her.

At one point, he allegedly wrapped a net around her neck and dragged her into a dark area in an attempt to rape her. The student somehow saved herself and returned to the road.

Several passers-by then rescued him and took him to a medical center. The student and other students later identified a man in the CCTV footage, although his identity could not be confirmed.
