After the BNP government assumed power on 17 February, on 24 February the Bangladesh Police Service Association requested a reconsideration of the decision to change police uniforms. The organization said in a statement that the new uniform chosen by the interim government took into account the skin colour, weather and opinions of police members.
The uniforms, chosen without any type of public opinion review, bear almost identical resemblance to those of other uniformed agencies. As a result, it has been difficult to identify police members in the area. The statement said that most members of the force are not in favor of this hasty change.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi on March 28, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the police force is not satisfied with the current uniform. He said that a decision would be taken soon after discussions at the highest level of the government, so that the police can regain one of their old traditional uniforms.
