Power supply transformer stolen

transformerIt may sound strange, but it’s true. A 200KV transformer is stolen from an electric pole of Dhaka Narayanganj link road near Chanmari area of Fatulla. As a result several thousand residents are suffering due to power blackout.

Chief engineer of DPDC Narayangaj east zone has filed a case at Fatulla model thana. OC of the police station Saiful Islam has admitted this and said they are trying to recover the stolen transformer. According to the information on complain paper price of the transformer is about four lakh taka.

Transformer stealing is common in the rural areas of Bangladesh. In some villages villagers arrange special security for transformers and in some places they put cage to protect the transformer. If a transformer is stolen they have to wait for several days to get a new one from the authority. If transformer is stolen for second time, cost of the transformer is taken from the consumers.

Stealing transformer from high voltage power line is not easy and these well trained thieves are notorious for bringing suffering to the villagers.
