President casts vote through postal ballot, urges citizens to vote on January 7

The President expressed hope that the elections would be held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere with the participation of all.

As per Article 27 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the head of the state is able to cast votes through postal ballot.

According to the Election Commission Secretariat, registered voters, those in jail or under legal custody, Bangladeshi expatriates and polling officers can also exercise their rights to vote through postal ballots in the upcoming general elections.

Four types of voters, who are unable to go to polling stations, can exercise their franchise through postal ballot. This provision has been introduced after the 9th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has launched a campaign to encourage voting through postal ballot in this year’s parliamentary elections.
