He said moderate shortage in supply of green chillies is a common phenomenon of this season, prompting authorities to meet consumer demands with imports.
This year, prices started rising a month before Eid-ul-Azha, an occasion that traditionally sees a rise in prices. Last year during this season it had risen to a staggering Tk 700 per kg.
“I sold green chillies at Tk 140 per kg on Thursday. The price increased again within two days,” said Rakib Ahmed, a vendor at Caravan Bazaar.
