The price of eggs also increased by at least Tk 5 per dozen during the week. Brown eggs were priced at Tk 135-140 per dozen while eggs were priced at Tk 130-135 per dozen. Traders say that the prices have increased due to low supply of eggs. According to TCB, egg prices have increased by 7 percent last week.
As the egg market became unstable, the government fixed the price of eggs at Tk 144 per dozen. The government also allowed 15 companies to import 150 million eggs from India, but only 61,950 eggs were imported through Benapole land port and the price of eggs was 7.23 taka per egg including duty.
According to Todayeggrate.in, a website that tracks egg prices in India, the price of an egg in Kolkata on Monday was Rs 6 or Tk 7.94. Meanwhile, egg importing companies have also requested the government to reduce import duty due to rising prices in India.
