The decision was announced in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources today, Sunday.

According to the notification, the retail price of diesel will remain unchanged at Tk 115 per litre. However, the price of kerosene has been increased from Tk 130 to Tk 135 per litre, the price of petrol has increased from Tk 135 to Tk 140 per litre, and octane from Tk 140 to Tk 145 per litre.

The new price will be applicable from midnight today.

Industry insiders say the highest one-day increase in fuel prices in the country’s history was in August 2022. After the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, the price of diesel had increased by 42.5 percent to Tk 114.

Although public reaction led to a cut of 5 taka later the same month, the price hike in April took fuel oil prices to a record high in Bangladesh. With this latest adjustment, prices of petrol, octane and kerosene have increased further.
