According to the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the price of local varieties of onion rose by 3 percent to Taka 90 per kilogram from Taka 80 per kilogram last week and the price of imported onions increased by about 4 percent. It increased to 75 taka per kg from 65 taka last week.
The government fixed the price of eggs at 144 taka per dozen and the retail price of potatoes at 35-36 taka per kilogram, but eggs were being sold at 145-150 taka per dozen and potatoes at 45-50 taka per kilogram.
However, no decline was seen in the prices of coarse, medium and fine varieties of rice and pulses, while bottled soybean was sold at Tk 169 per litre. Beef was priced at Tk 750-800 per kg and mutton at Tk 1,000-1,100 per kg.
The prices of farmed pangas and tilapia range from Rs 200 to Rs 250 per kg, depending on their size, and the price of roe ranges from Rs 350 to Rs 450 per kg. Although the season of Hilsha is nearing its end, the price of one kilogram sized Hilsha ranges from Taka 1,300 to Taka 1,500 per kilogram. Maliba Kitchen Market trader Abdul Majeed told Prothom Alo that the price of hilsha was high this season due to low supply.
