Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Monday, so the sale of sacrificial animals has started tomorrow i.e. Thursday in a total of 20 permanent and temporary markets in Dhaka city – nine cattle markets in Dhaka South and 11 cattle markets in Dhaka North city corporations. The sale will continue until the morning of Eid day.

According to cattle sellers, sales will pick up in all cattle markets except Gabtoli cattle market starting from Friday. Two Prothom Alo reporters visited various cattle markets in Dhaka, including Gabtoli, Hazaribagh, Maradi and Uttara's Diyabari. Gabtoli cattle market saw more buyers and more animals than other markets, but most buyers expressed dissatisfaction with the price.

Mahbubur Rahman, a lawyer, went to the capital's Maradi market on Thursday afternoon. He told Prothom Alo that cattle that were sold for Tk 100,000 last year were being asked for Tk 200,000 this year, and even after visiting the entire market, he could not buy the cow of his choice.

Thousands of people were seen crowding the Gabtoli market. Prothom Alo spoke to Ahad Hossain from Shaymoli Ring Road area. He said that he bought a small cow for 91,000 taka, but last year he bought a similar cow for 78,000 taka.
