Prime minister is determined to build a new international airport near Dhaka

BimanPrime minister Sheikh Hasina said, her government will build a new international airport near the capital with sate of the art technology. Few years ago a similar project was initiated but that was abandoned after mass protest from locals and environmental activists. They said, building an airport will destroy environment and ecosystem by as a new airport will be built by filling wetland. Many aviation experts argued that at this time Bangladesh don’t need a new international airport; it will be wastage of money.

Government decided to name the airport as ‘Bangabandhu International Airport’, who is the founder president of Bangladesh and present prime minister’s father. That project was virtually abandoned.

Now prime minister says government will initiate the project after site selection. She also said, a tunnel connecting Shahjalal airport and adjacent rail station will be built soon.

She said these while inaugurating a new aircraft for Bangladesh Biman, Akash Pradeep. She also said good bye to old DC 10 aircraft. This aircraft will leave Dhaka for UK on 20th February, it will fly on Birmingham’s sky for one hour on 22nd, 23rd and 24th February, it will be special flight and passengers with special ticket will be on board. Passengers with window seat will have to pay 150 pound and isle ticket will cost 100 pound. More 50 pounds will be required on the final day, the 24th February. And after these historic flights the aircraft will fly for Seattle for its final destination on an aviation museum.
