He said the discussions included political cooperation, trade and investment, halal industry, digital economy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, labor market, education, tourism, energy, defense and security.
A 33-point joint statement has been issued with the aim of increasing cooperation in nine areas.
According to Mahdi Amin, both countries have agreed to carry forward discussions on Free Trade Agreement (FTA). They also discussed increasing Malaysian investment in Bangladesh’s technology parks and economic zones as well as enhancing cooperation in halal certification, research, training and development of skilled manpower.
He said Prime Minister Tariq Rahman had called for a rapid reopening of Malaysia’s labor market and requested more employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers through lower costs and a more transparent recruitment process. The two sides also discussed ensuring the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals living in Malaysia without proper documentation or in detention, either by regularizing them or on humanitarian grounds.
Mahdi Amin said there were also positive discussions on Malaysian investments in the energy sector, including LNG (liquified natural gas), oil and gas exploration and renewable energy.
