Some students of Dhaka University (DU) have been ganging up for quite some time, indulging in criminal activities on the campus late at night. The gang members, all students of the 2020-21 session, are involved in drug abuse, smuggling, extortion and other crimes. The details of the ‘Proloy gang’, as they call themselves, came to light after members recently thrashed a fellow student.
The gang members become active at night near Suhrawardy Udyan and take drugs. They meet every night in a room at the Dr. Mohammad Murtaza Medical Center on campus. They often express their meeting there by posting pictures on Facebook.
Proloy gang members thrashed a student of Sir AF Rahman Hall in front of Muktijodha Ziaur Rahman Hall on Saturday night. Since then several media organizations have carried reports on the gang members’ criminal activities.
It is learned that the criminal activities of the gang members range from robbing outsiders to harassing and thrashing people in the premises. Some of them are involved in the politics of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party.
