Public Administration Deputy Secretary sent on compulsory retirement

Deputy Secretary AKM Rezaul Karim, former director of Jati Granth Kendra, has been sent on compulsory retirement after being found involved in a rape incident.

The Public Administration on Wednesday issued a notification in this regard signed by its Senior Secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury.

It has been said in the notification that this order will come into force with immediate effect in the public interest.

The charge sheet was filed against Rezaul in a case filed under the Prevention of Repression of Women and Child Act 2000, while he was the director of the Grantha Kendra.

He was suspended on 25 June in 2019.

The notification states that later he threatened the plaintiff to withdraw the case and another case was registered for threats and physical harassment.

The Ministry of Public Administration initiated a departmental inquiry against him and he was issued a show cause notice.

However, the Inquiry Officer did not receive a satisfactory reply to the show cause notice.

The ministry later sought the opinion of the Public Service Commission and the commission agreed to send him on compulsory retirement.

President Mohamed Abdul Hamid later approved the decision, and read the notification.
