MD Sarwar Hussain joined the Department of Public Health and Engineering on 1 January 2023. According to the letter submitted to the US Embassy, he was born on 7 April 1965. He will turn 59 on April 7. Government officers retire at the age of 59. Accordingly, Sarwar Hussain should proceed on post retirement leave (PRL).
Questions have been raised on foreign trips of government officials. Former senior secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed retired on 22 May 2022. Just a day after his retirement, he returned home after visiting the Netherlands and Spain. The entire expense of his 10-day trip was funded by three government projects.
Experts believe that foreign trips of government officials just before retirement are a waste of money.
Former additional secretary Mohammad Firoz Miah, an expert on service rules and regulations, said it was not appropriate that officers who would soon retire would attend foreign training.
