Quiet celebration of PM’s 68th birthday

PM-hasina-300Without any public “cake cutting” or fan-fare, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will quietly celebrate her 68th birthday at a private setting in London with close family members on Monday, officials at the PM’s office confirmed yesterday.

Hasina was born on September 28, 1947, at her Tungipara ancestral home in Gopalganj district.

She will fly from John F Kennedy airport, New York, (where she attended the UN General Assembly meeting and World Climate Summit, among other engagements) at dawn of Monday (Sept 28 evening Bangladesh time) by US Air (Flight US7159) and will reach Heathrow airport in London at 7pm of Sept 29.

In London, the Prime Minister does not have any official programme. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) officials with the PM’s entourage said that her visit to London for two-nights is private.

The officials said a skeletal PMO staff including a contingent of security officers from Special Service Force (SSF) would accompany her during the private tour in Britain.

From the Heathrow airport she will be driven to her younger sister Sheikh Rehana’s residence in London and will join family birthday dinner on Monday night. At the reunion she will be joined by her niece Tulip Rezwana Siddiq, a Labour Party leader and nephew Rezwan Siddiq Bobby.

The following day (Tuesday), she will remain at her sister’s residence and spend the day quietly with the relatives. Hasina will cook meal and share her moments with them. ” It’s an exclusive private vacation for Prime Minister. She is taking time off from her hectic life,” remarked a PMO official.

Her official itinerary in London does not mention any official programme.
Hasina will leave London Heathrow airport for Dhaka via Sylhet Osmani International Airport by VVIP Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Flight BG006) on Wednesday evening and reach Dhaka at 11 am on Thursday.
