Rakhine conflict: Sound of bullets heard on Ukhiya border, Ghumudhu remained calm. latest updates

Local people said that the situation calmed down to some extent from Tuesday evening. Although there were sporadic gunshots, there was no sound of heavy shelling. But fear once again spread among the people as sounds of firing and mortar shelling were heard on Wednesday night.

Giyas Uddin, 65, of Rahmater Bill, Palangkhali, said people were in relief for about 24 hours but woke up from their sleep at night after hearing gunshots. Some people were trying to shift at that time but after around 2 pm no gunshot was heard.

Meanwhile, people in the border areas believe that the firing that took place on Wednesday night was not between the Arakan Army and the BGP. Rather, the fighting was between the separatist Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) and the armed militant Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) led by Nabi Hussein of Maungdaw, Myanmar.
