In the wee hours of Friday, Khokon was able to escape his burning house, but his father Kangal Bosek, 70, mother Lokpriya, 60, wife Lucky, 32, son Sourav, 12, and daughter Shoyonti, 5, were trapped inside devastating fire.

“I have none left. ‘Baba, fire!’ – These words are ringing in my ears, ”she said, tears welling up in her eyes.

Now they have fond memories of Sourav, a Class VII student learning to play the tabla, and Shoyanti, a Class I student, who loved to dance.

The children shared the bed with their grandmother at night. When the fire broke out at around 1:45 am, he knocked on his parents’ bedroom door. “They shouted: ‘Baba, fire! Open the door. I came out with my wife and all six of us stood on the verandah,'” Khokon said.
