Reviewing the verdict, the court further said that the medical testimony and evidence in the case proved that the girl was raped and later murdered. This was also confirmed by the testimony of the police officer who prepared the investigation report.
The testimony of witnesses 1 to 16 revealed that after the rape and murder, accused Sohail Rana cut the window grill and ran away. During this time the second accused Swapna Akhtar was present in the flat. Instead of intervening to stop murder and rape, he encouraged crime. As a result, both the accused, Sohail Rana and Swapna Akhtar, are guilty of the same crime.
The court in its observations said that, based on all the evidence and testimony, it was proved that accused Sohail Rana raped and murdered the girl between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The court also cited the confessional statement of accused Sohail Rana, in which he had admitted to raping and murdering the girl.
