Real Madrid will face arch-rivals Barcelona in the semi-finals of the cup

Real Madrid will face rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-finals after the draw was carried out at the Spanish FA headquarters on Monday.

Osasuna will face Athletic Bilbao in the other semi-final.

Matches take place on four different dates in February, March and April, causing a scheduling headache with the Spanish FA as Real Madrid play in the FIFA Club World Cup in early February and then have two legs of the last 16 of the Champions League. Huh.

Real and Barca will meet in the first leg at the Camp Nou on March 1 and the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 4 or 5. Osasuna will play Athletic on 8 February and 1 March.

The semi-final is a chance for La Liga and European champions Real to avenge their 3-1 defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup two weeks ago.

Barca are currently the league leaders after extending their lead to 47 points with their 1-0 win at Girona on Saturday. Real are second, five points behind.
