The Home Minister said that many constables retire without any promotion after serving for 40 years.
To address this issue, he said the government plans to introduce a special policy allowing honorary promotions on retirement based on satisfactory service record.
Under the proposal, constables can be promoted to Honorary Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), ASIs can be promoted to Honorary Sub-Inspector (SI) and SIs can be promoted to Honorary Inspector rank, he said.
The minister also said the government is considering overtime allowance for police personnel from constable to inspector level performing duties beyond regular working hours under a special policy framework.
“This initiative is expected to boost morale and improve the quality of service,” he said.
Highlighting the physical and mental stress faced by police members due to working long hours, the Minister said that central and divisional police hospitals will be upgraded with modern facilities.
