“My husband was a supervisor in a garment factory. He did not participate in the workers’ demonstrations, nor was he a labor leader. “Yet why was he killed by stray bullets?”

Nargis, wife of 40-year-old Jalal Uddin, was looking for answers as to why her husband was murdered.

Jalal was injured by a bullet during a demonstration by textile workers in Konabari, Ghazipur on Wednesday.

He later died during treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday night.

With him, the number of garment workers killed in Ghazipur has reached two. On Wednesday, a 30-year-old activist named Anjuara Khatoon died during the protest.

Nargis was mourning near the mortuary of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday afternoon. Her only child, 9-year-old Jannatul Firdous Bakiya, was crying beside her mother.

Family members told that Jalal was a supervisor in a factory of Islam Group.

“Like every day, my husband went to the factory. He was returning home as the factory was declared closed due to the protest. “He was shot near his home,” Nargis said.
