Rohingya crisis: Due to conflict in Myanmar, infiltration attempts have started in Bangladesh

Rohingya people from Myanmar wait at the border to enter Bangladesh as conflict continues in their country.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members are on high alert to prevent any attempt by Rohingyas to enter Bangladesh illegally.

Local representatives said about 200 Rohingya on several boats were waiting on the other side of the Naf River to cross into Bangladesh.

On 6 February, law enforcers arrested 23 armed Rohingyas at the border in Rahmater Beel area in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The remand hearing of these Rohingyas is going to be held today in Cox’s Bazar Judicial Magistrate Court.

Currently, 12.5 lakh Rohingyas are living in 33 shelter camps in Ukhia and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar. Of these, 800,000 people were displaced by the Myanmar military’s crackdown in Rakhine in the months following August 25 in 2017. Within six years of the infiltration, not a single Rohingya could be deported back to Myanmar.
