Not only the academic activities are hampered due to the absence of the Vice-Chancellor, but the development work of the university has also come to a standstill. The acting university registrar, Selim Hussein, informed Prothom Alo that the impasse is having an adverse effect on both teachers and students. The Ministry of Education was informed about this situation on 18 June.
According to university sources, the tenure of vice-chancellor Rafiqul Islam ended at the end of July last year. Subsequently, on 3 August, the Ministry of Education appointed Sajjad Hussain, senior professor and dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Humanities, to handle the day-to-day activities of the Vice-Chancellor.
However, on May 28 this year, he resigned due to the ongoing teachers’ agitation demanding promotion. He told the reason for his resignation was not given the right to promote teachers during the appointment. As a result, since then the academic examinations and result processes have been suspended.
