Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is arriving in Bangladesh this afternoon, less than 24 hours from the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
He will sit in a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at a hotel today, Thursday evening.
Lavrov will also pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Gana Bhawan, before leaving for Delhi to attend the G-20 Summit on September 8 in the afternoon.
Diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Moscow said on Wednesday that the visit was significant as it was the first visit by a Russian foreign minister to Bangladesh. Along with bilateral ties, the context of the Russia-Ukraine war and political cooperation between the two sides ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh will figure prominently.
