Samsung announced the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5, shiny new devices that might help lift the company’s business stable. The two full-metal smartphones are aimed at young buyers, and come with selfie features galore and even a GIF maker.
Following on from Samsung’s first foray into metal with the Galaxy Alpha and then the Note 4, the company has splashed out on its five-inch A5 and 4.5-inch A3, giving them a full metal unibody.
Samsung says the A5 and A3 are its slimmest smartphones to date, with depths at 6.7mm and 6.9mm respectively, though as some have noticed, the slimmer of the two is on par with the Galaxy Alpha.
The Galaxy A-series include front-facing five-megapixel cameras, which are primed for selfies with features like wide selfie, palm selfie, animated GIF, and “beauty face features”, which smoothes out a subject’s face and improves lighting. Both also come with “rear-cam selfie”, a feature that automatically focuses on a person’s face and lets them use the more powerful rear camera.
The two devices both share a 1.2GHz processor, LTE Category 4 support, and built-in 16GB storage with a microSD slot that supports up to 64GB.

The five-inch A5 however comes with a HD super AMOLED, 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear camera, while the A3 has a 4.5-inch qHD super AMOLED display, 1GB of RAM and an eight-megapixel rear camera. The A5 has a 2,300 mAh battery while the A3 has a 1,900 mAh battery. Unlike many Samsung devices, neither phone’s battery can be removed.
The A-series will be available in white, black, silver, soft pink, light blue and champagne gold.
Samsung hasn’t released prices yet but given the specs and target market, Samsung says the devices will go on sale in selected markets in November.
