A day after the arrest of the fugitive, judicial sources said Tuesday that perfume, designer clothes and sex pills were found in an apartment that investigators believe was the last hideout of Sicilian Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro.

Messina Denaro, 60, who was captured on Monday in a private hospital in Palermo after being on the run for 30 years, is being held in the central Italian city of L’Aquila, a Palermo prosecutor said. He had been transferred from Sicily on the day of his arrest.

The apartment is in a modest building near the center of Campobello di Mazara in the western Sicilian province of Trapani, a few kilometers from Castelvetrano, Messina Denaro’s home town.

Judicial sources said investigators found clothes, shoes, a well-stocked fridge and restaurant receipts. He has also got potency pills.

Magistrate Paolo Guido, one of the officers investigating Messina Denaro, said, “He had a regular life, he went to the supermarket.”

Neighbors described him as a friendly person.

Rosario Cognata told Italian media, “I live on the first floor of the building, sometimes I have seen this person, greeted him and nothing more. He responded in a cordial way.”
