It is learned that the existing radar and navigation system of the airport was installed in 1980, for which it cannot track the entire airspace of the country, especially the area over the Bay of Bengal. As a result, the country is depriving the country of receiving a fee of US$ 500 as ‘flying over charge’ from foreign aircraft using the country’s airspace once.
The CAAB says that though the facility is likely to be operational by the end of this year, it will take until next year to be fully operational. From then on, the country will be able to collect fees from foreign airlines.
