Sheikh Hasina became world leader: President

President Zillur Rahman today said dynamic role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the international forums for establishing democracy and peace has gave her the status of a world leader.

“Her role in facing adverse impacts of climate change, placing peace model in the UN General Assembly and inclusion of Bangla as the official language
of the UN gave her the dignity of the world leader,” he said while speaking at a children gathering marking the 65th birthday of Sheikh Hasina at Bangabhaban.

Kendriya Bangabandhu Shishu- Kishore Mela organized the programme to mark the day where its chief adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury also spoke.

Awami League Presidium member and adviser of the organization Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and its chief PATRON Mir Mosharraf Hossain Pakbir, President Meah Monsaf, General Secretary Eashin Mohammad and adviser Aminur Rahman were present, among others.

Besides her dynamic leadership, President Zillur Rahman said, Sheikh Hasina’s role in ensuring development and establishing democracy and peace have deeply inspired peoples across the world. She (Sheikh Hasina) has become a role model of ideal for the new generation,” the President observed.

During the previous Awami League government, the President said, Sheikh
Hasina had played a major role in signing Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord and Ganges Water Sharing Agreement with India.

“She
had achieved CERES award from the UN Food and Agriculture
Organisation for producing huge food grains during her last
tenure,” he said.

This time her achievement is not insignificant,
the President said, and added that it’s not a matter of joke of
maintaining 6-7 percent growth when the global economy is
undergoing recession.

She achieved millennium development goals (MDG) award for
her contribution to women and children development last year
whereas this year she achieved the South-South Award, the
President said.

“All these achievements have been possible due to her
dynamic leadership,” Zillur Rahman said. The President said
Chairman of British Conservative Party Sayeeda Warsi came to him
with greetings of the Queen Elizabeth during his last London
visit. That time Warsi made comments about the Prime Minister
that `Sheikh Hasina is the best source of inspiration, he said.

The President urged young generation to know true history of
the country and contribution of Bangabandhu and those who
sacrificed their lives for the country. “Through this you will be
patriotic and able to contribute to welfare of the country,” he
said.

President Zillur Rahman wished good health and long life of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, with the children of the organization the President
cut a cake marking the day. A special munajat seeking divine
blessings for the President, the Prime Minister and welfare for
entire country was offered.

Sheikh Hasina, born in 1947, is the eldest of five children
of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Since 1981 Sheikh Hasina has been the president of the
country’s oldest political party, Bangladesh Awami League. She
has proved her worth by leading the party back to power in 1996.

Under her dynamic and talented leadership, Awami League was
again voted to power with a three-fourth majority in December 29,
2008 general elections.
