It is clear why ASK has called the country’s overall human rights situation ‘appalling’. Because of this alarming state of human rights violations, Bangladesh has drawn criticism from the international arena over the years. In 2021, the United States also imposed sanctions against seven current and former RAB officials.
According to the ASK report, there has been a decrease in extra-judicial killings compared to previous years, but they have not stopped completely. The incidents of disappearance, kidnapping, death in custody are not taking the name of stopping. The ASK executive director called for a complete end to extrajudicial killings as well as setting up of a judicial commission to stop cases of disappearances, murders and abductions and bring those involved to justice. We also believe that ensuring transparency and accountability in every sector is essential to improving the overall human rights situation.
