South Africa scored a record 428 runs in the World Cup against Sri Lanka

South Africa posted the highest World Cup score of 428-5 against Sri Lanka on a record-setting day in New Delhi on Saturday.

The Proteas bettered the previous World Cup best of 417 runs set by Australia against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015.

Aiden Markram (106) also created history by scoring the fastest World Cup century, reaching the milestone in just 49 balls.

Rassie van der Dussen (108) and Quinton de Kock (100) also scored centuries in the World Cup opener, including three in the same innings.
