Fast bowler Nandre Berger took 4 for 33 as South Africa bowled out India for just 131 in the second innings to win the first Test by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion on Thursday.
Virat Kohli was the only batsman to test the home attack on the third day, top-scoring with 76 runs before the last man out.
South Africa had earlier taken a lead of 163 runs in the first innings thanks to Dean Elgar (185) and Marco Johnson (84 not out) and increased their first innings total to 408 runs.
At tea, India’s score was 62 for three, with 101 runs still left, with Indian captain Rohit Sharma (0), fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (5) and Shubman Gill (26) all returning to the pavilion.
