South Korea strives to reinvigorate Scout Jamboree hit by heatwave

South Korean officials said at least 600 people have been treated for heat-related illnesses.

Britain’s largest troupe, the Scouts, said on Friday they were moving to hotels in the capital Seoul for the rest of their stay in hopes of easing pressure on the site.

“The UK volunteer team has worked very hard with the organizers to provide our youth members and adult volunteers with adequate food and water, shelter from unusually hot weather and suitable toilet and washing facilities for an event of this scale ” UK Scouts said.

President Yoon Suk Yeol convened a cabinet meeting to approve spending 6 billion won ($4.6 million) to support the Jamboree, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said the government would “do everything in its power to ensure that resources so that the Jamboree can end safely”.
