His party joined the Oikya Front, a now-defunct BNP-led coalition, ahead of the national election in 2018. He participated in two dialogues with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ahead of the election, as a representative of the coalition.
However, the Oikya Front has now come to an end. The BNP and other like-minded parties launched a simultaneous movement against the current regime.
According to sources, the ruling party is trying to increase the number of its political allies. It plans to form a grand coalition by inducting new parties into the ruling 14-party coalition.
Kader Siddiqui reportedly attempted to join the ruling party after his brother Latif Siddiqui was dropped from the cabinet for hurting religious sentiments. Also, there is a possibility of his party being included in the ruling coalition of 14 parties.
Friday’s meeting fueled speculation that Kader Siddiqui may return to the ruling party and that it was part of the process for his return.
