Merchan has ordered Trump barred from publicly attacking witnesses, and the former president — who has traded insults with Daniels for years, calling him a “horse face” and other vulgar abuses — has yet to hear from him during his testimony. But have not commented directly.
Trump said on Thursday that his side has filed an appeal against the gag order in the Appellate Court.
His lawyer also demanded that Trump be allowed to publicly counter Daniels' claims about their encounter now that he is not a witness.
Judge Merchan denied his request to change the gag order, which fined Trump $10,000 for breaking.
During cross-examination Thursday, Daniels accused Nechels of trying to provoke him into speaking inappropriately.
“You have a lot of experience in making fake stories about sex look real,” Nechels said. He said Daniels has directed and starred in more than 150 adult films.
Daniels responded, referring to her account of the night with Trump, “If that story was false I would have written it even better.” “I didn't have to write this.”
In addition to the New York case, Trump has also been convicted in Washington and Georgia on charges of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
He has also been charged in Florida for allegedly mishandling classified documents after leaving the White House, but that case has been postponed indefinitely.
