Substandard school textbooks: errors and poor quality printing in Satkhira

After the distribution of books across the country on the first day of the year, complaints started coming from all sides regarding the quality of printing and paper. A teacher at a school in the capital’s Segunbagicha, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Prothom Alo that the printing quality of some of the books that came to his school appeared to be poor. The binding was also poor. Some books started breaking on the very first day.

A parent, whose child studies in Manipur School and College in the capital, said while remaining anonymous that his child studies in Class 6. He found his English textbook, but part of it was blurred.

A look at the books of classes 6,7, 8 and 9 shows that the quality of printing of paper and covers is good. But in many cases the quality of the paper inside the pages is poor. In some cases, the paper is of extremely poor quality. The pictures are also blurry. Portions of page 121 of Class 6 English book are blurred and unreadable.

Tofail Khan, former president of Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samiti (Bangladesh Printing Industry Association), speaking to Prothom Alo, said that he had seen some of the books. The quality was bad. He had already informed NCTB about some matters, but things were not resolved. As a result, many students were deprived of good quality books.
