A customer named Sohag Mia was also seen arguing with Ramiz Mollah. Speaking to Prothom Alo, he said, “Be it small or big, all businessmen are the same. Somehow or the other, they always find ways to cut the throats of the public.”
However, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir termed the sales above MRP as sporadic incidents.
Referring to his visit to several markets in the Sylhet region yesterday, Saturday, he told Prothom Alo, “The example you mentioned does not represent the general situation across the country. In remote areas of Sylhet, I saw edible oil being sold at MRP.”
“Tomorrow, (Sunday), I will visit Khatunganj in Chattogram to inspect the situation of prices and supplies of edible oil and other essential commodities,” he said.
On one side of Dilu Road street is Swapno chain shop, and on the other side is Meena Bazaar.
Notices at both outlets said, “Stock is limited. In order to ensure every customer’s right to purchase soybean oil, each customer can temporarily purchase a maximum of one piece (bottle) of oil.” However, these shops are not charging more than the MRP.
