The Election Commission (EC) has issued revised guidelines for foreign observers during the next parliamentary elections. According to the new rules, a foreign national or agency wishing to observe elections in Bangladesh must have prior experience of working in the fields of good governance, democracy, peace building and human rights.
Earlier this year, the Election Commission had invited applications from organizations willing to be registered as election observers. 199 organizations had applied before the February 2 deadline, but the commission later received applications from 11 more organizations.
