About a month and a half ago, the then Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) Mohammed Tajul Islam had requested the removal of Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmood on various charges including breach of trust, breach of discipline and code of conduct, assault on a security guard and ill-treatment of his wife.
On January 11, he had sent a letter to Asif Nazrul, who was working as a law advisor in the former interim government, demanding this action. Tajul Islam confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo.
After the interim government took charge, Tajul Islam was appointed as the chief prosecutor of the tribunal. However, on Monday the new Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led government canceled his appointment.
