Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al Ansari confirmed on Tuesday that Witkoff and Kushner were in Doha, but said “they are not here for talks with the Iranians”.
“They came there to meet the mediators, the Qatari officials and the talks will be on all regional issues… Of course, talks with Iran, but Lebanon is also included,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei said on Monday that a delegation of experts would visit Doha “later this week” only to discuss the deal, and not for direct US talks.
“We have not yet reached the stage of negotiations on a final agreement,” he said. “In the coming days, we will not hold any dialogue meetings at any level with the American side,” he said.
