A building painted green and yellow stands out prominently. The national flags of Brazil adorn its walls. Images of football legends such as Pelé and Ronaldo Nazario along with current stars Neymar and Vinicius Jr. decorate the exterior.
The Brazilian flag is fluttering from the rooftop. From a distance, many people might mistake this building for a sports club. However, in reality, it is a schoolteacher’s house.
This house is situated in Boro Das area of Dakshin Angarpara of Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur district. Its owner, Shimul Kanti Das, 37, teaches at Dakkhin Jagatpur Government Primary School in the upazila.
Inspired by his support for his favorite team Brazil at the FIFA World Cup, he transformed his residence into a “little Brazil”.
People come home from different areas every day to see it. Some take photos, while others record video.
Many visitors later share those photos and videos on social media platforms.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Shimul Kanti Das said, “I have supported the Brazil national team since childhood. Brazil’s loss to France in the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals left a deep impression on me. I cried after that match. Perhaps that loss made my love for the team even stronger. When Brazil won the World Cup in 2002, that feeling reached a whole new level. My affection for the team is as strong today as it was then.” Was.”
Shimul Kanti Das said that every World Cup brings a special excitement for him regarding Brazil.
That sentiment inspired him to decorate his home in Brazil’s national colors. He wanted anyone who saw the house to immediately recognize that he supported Brazil.
He spent Tk 10,000 to Tk 15,000 on the project, which included adding photographs of players, creating decorative artwork on the walls and repainting the building.
They completed the decoration work four days before the start of the World Cup and intend to keep the house in its current form until the tournament ends.
