The Bangladesh Cricket Board today announced the Bangladesh A squad for the first four-day match against India at Cox’s Bazar, featuring national team Test stars like Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shoriful Islam. The Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, Ground 2, Cox’s Bazar will host the first four-day match against India A while the second four-day match will be played in Sylhet.
BCB officials had earlier said that they were open to playing red-ball format cricketers in the A side during India A’s tour to give national stars a chance to prepare for the upcoming two-match Test series against the senior India team. The first four-day match between Bangladesh A and India A will take place from 29 November to 2 December, just two days before the ODI series against India in Mirpur on 4 December. Nazmul Hossain is the only player from the ODI squad announced by the BCB yesterday. He has been named in the Bangladesh A squad for the first four-day match against India A.
The selectors are understood to have taken the decision as Shanto hasn’t played well enough in the red-ball format in recent times.
Test openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam, along with spinners Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan have also been included in the squad to be led by Mohammad Mithun. Khalid Ahmed will lead the pace attack in the 14-man squad along with Shorful, Shumon Khan and Rezaur Rahman Raja.
According to BCB sources, Jamie Siddons will be in charge of the A team. The Australian is expected to stay with the A team till the end of the A team series before joining the national team during the Test series against India.
The Bangladesh ODI team will begin preparations under head coach Russell Domingo from November 28, while Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman are expected to join later after being given NOCs by the BCB by November 30.
Bharat A reached Chattogram after reaching Bangladesh today. The team, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, has also included India’s Test players Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav in the 16-member squad for the second four-day cricket match to be played from December 6 to December 9.
