On 14 December, the country will observe Martyrs Intellectuals Day in the memory of those intellectuals who were killed during the 1971 Liberation War, especially on 25 March and 14 December 1971, by the Pakistan Army and their collaborators.

The country’s Victory Day will be observed on 16 December to pay homage to the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice to free the country from the misrule and occupation of the Pakistani ruler.

On 16 December 1971, the commander of Pakistan’s occupation forces, General A.A.K. Niazi, and his 93,000 soldiers surrendered to freedom fighters and allied forces of the Indian Army at Ramna’s Racecourse, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka, marking one of the most important events in the war. It was a bad defeat. It broke out on 25 March.
