A new strategic arrangement in the name of connectivity has been announced on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Delhi. The initiative, named India-Middle East-Europe Corridor or IMEC, aims to connect the three continents.
India, US, European Union, Saudi Arabia, UAE, France, Germany and Italy have signed the initiative. The countries included in this master plan hope that economic activities will accelerate in the entire region through railway and shipping route connectivity.
The signatories of this initiative want direct connectivity between Asia and the Gulf region as well as Europe through communication systems and economic inclusion.
IMEC will consist of two distinct corridors: the first or Eastern Corridor will connect India with the Gulf region, and the second or Northern Corridor will connect the Gulf region with Europe. The countries associated with IMEC envision green and digital connectivity between the three regions through this comprehensive plan.
