People in the northern and northwestern districts of Bangladesh are experiencing the last spell of mild winter before the first breeze of spring blows in.
The mercury dropped significantly in Nilphamari, Pabna, Dinajpur and Kurigram, with Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram recording the lowest temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
When the temperature drops below 6°C over a large area, it is considered a severe cold wave. A moderate cold snap forms if the temperature of the region remains between 6-8 degrees Celsius, while temperatures hovering between 8-10 degrees Celsius constitute a mild cold snap.
Meteorologist Mohammad Bajlur Rasheed said that a mild cold wave may continue in the northern parts of the country for a few more days.
