The price of fertilizers is reduced to Tk.15 (MOP) from Tk.25 and to TK. 27 (DAP) from Tk.30. This new price may be effective from Monday
Due to this reduction in price the government will have to pay a subsidy of Tk.620 crore.
This decision will be gazetted on Sunday. According to the calculation of the agriculture ministry, in the next season there will be a want of 4 lac. Tons of MOP and 3.5 lac. Tons of DAP fertilizers. In that case additional subsidy of another Tk.620 crore will be required. As a result total subsidy in this year in agriculture will be 2,300 crore.
Due to a price hike in international market the price of fertilizers in January 2009 the price of fertilizers in local market of Bangladesh were Tk.78, Tk.72 and Tk.80 per Kg of TSP, MOP and DAP respectively.
After taking power of this government on 6 January that year, on January 14 they reduced the price of fertilizers as Tk.40 per Kg of TSP, Tk.35MOP and DAPTk.45
