On Wednesday, a medium sized green coconut was sold for Rs 70-110 in Mithapukurpar, Shishu Hospital Mod and Bus Stand area. Many people were seen returning empty handed after learning the values.
Saidul Islam, who sells green coconuts in Mithapukurpar area, told Prothom Aalo, “The price is high since the first day of Ramzan. We climb trees, take off coconuts and sell them. We buy each green coconut from the owner of the tree for Rs.50. Have to sell coconut bearing all the expenses.
Ali Akbar, a resident of Muniganj in the town, said, “A medium-sized green coconut, which will hold one and a half glasses of water, costs Rs 100. It is difficult to buy green coconut at such a high price.”
