Gas supplies for domestic cooking gas have become erratic in many urban areas of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka. As an alternative, the price of LPG cylinder is also increasing.
Now, many cooks are opting for electric induction and infrared stoves as a permanent solution to this situation.
The demand for this particular type of chulha has gradually increased in the capital as it is relatively cost-effective as well as safe and hassle-free.
According to some vendors, people rush to buy electric stoves during Ramzan, the month of fasting, or when gas supply in an area is cut for several days.
Consumers in local markets can choose from a wide range of stoves made by foreign brands such as LG, Kim, Novena, Ricoh and Prestige, apart from models produced by local brands such as Walton and Vision.
Stoves with power capacity of 2200 watts are available in the market at prices ranging between Rs.3,000 to Rs.4,000. The cost may increase slightly depending on the additional features they provide.
Sharing her experience with bdnews24.com, Ireen Sultana, a resident of Pallabi area of the capital, said that when the road was dug for the metro rail project a few years back, gas was not available in her area most of the days. , To overcome this problem, he bought an electric stove from an electronics store. Since then, he does not have to face any problem even when there is a shortage of gas in the area.
Irene pointed out the convenience of using a portable stove that can be set up and used anywhere in the home and easily packed away when not in use.
“My stove is equipped with infrared technology and can be used with any pan,” she said.
This came in handy when other residents in the area had to go to restaurants due to gas shortages, resulting in overcrowding and food shortages.
With her portable stove, however, Irene doesn’t have to worry about these issues, she said.
In the past, people cooked with electric heaters, and there were many reports of accidents resulting from contact with stove coils or electrical wiring.
