“Traders and especially those supplying fresh food items like fruits, vegetables are facing losses as trucks are stuck on the way for the last three days,” he said.
He said some trucks had been diverted to other, smaller border crossings, but traders were concerned about the safety of truckers going to that area.
Residents reported heavy shelling near the Torkham border crossing on Monday morning, but a Taliban official denied any clashes and said the situation was under control.
Disputes over the 2,600 km (1,615 mi) border have been a point of contention between the neighbors for decades.
