Three held over theft of construction materials from BMU’s Super Specialised Hospital

Police detained three people today in connection with the theft of construction equipment and materials from the Super Specialised Hospital at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).

“Three have been picked up over the issue, and most of the materials have been recovered from warehouses in Dhaka’s Badda,” Masud Alam, deputy commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star.

He could not immediately provide the names of the detainees. The process to file a case in this regard is underway.

Prof Saifullah Munshi, director of the hospital, said an assistant engineer and a computer operator of the institution were among those detained.

According to hospital sources, a group took away leftover construction equipment and materials from the hospital’s basement using pickup vans on Monday night. However, no medical equipment was stolen.
