Prothom Alo investigation revealed that most of the hotels and motels of the Tourism Corporation are located in attractive locations. Their security is also good. Despite this, lack of professionalism of officials, mismanagement, irregularities, corruption, nepotism and bureaucracy are the reasons due to which tourists do not go there.
There are 51 hotels, motels, restaurants and bars under Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. Of those, the corporation operates 35 units while 16 are leased. They faced an average loss of Tk 100 million in the last financial year (2022-23).
A report by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism said 33 out of 35 commercial centers failed to meet the revenue target.
